This is an exciting opportunity for a Post-Doctoral Research Associate to work on a ground-breaking new project funded by the prestigious Economic and Social Research Council. The project is called Dying in the Margins: Uncovering the Barriers to Home Dying for the Socio-Economically Deprived. This is a full-time Grade 7 appointment for 30 months based in Dumfries, Scotland.

We are looking for someone who has a track record in undertaking in-depth research on sensitive issues and/or with potentially vulnerable groups. Knowledge of image-based research would be of benefit, as would prior research experience in the end of life and/or poverty field. You will be joining a creative and supportive team who have designed a project which aims to inform end of life policy and services in Scotland and beyond. There will be opportunities to present at conferences internationally, and to co-author high-impact academic and policy outputs. If you have keen analytical and communication skills and are passionate about issues of social justice, then we would really like to hear from you.

Key responsibilities will include: working with GPs to recruit people who are nearing the end of their life and their family members; in-depth qualitative data collection with participants; supporting participants to use photo-voice to take images of their life; working with a professional photographic artist and exhibition curator to exhibit participant and artist images; and organising key public engagement events, including at the Scottish Parliament.

The Research Associate will be part of the vibrant interdisciplinary Glasgow End of Life Studies Group, which is an established research network at the University of Glasgow based at the School of Interdisciplinary Studies, Dumfries. We work in collaboration with a wide range of academic, policy and practice communities around the world.

Standard Terms & Conditions

Salary will be on the University’s Research and Teaching Grade, level 7, £35,845 – £40,322 per annum.

The post is full time with funding up to 31/8/2022 in the first instance.
